Every paper in the archive records its authors as separate entries, so that a name can be searched and followed from one paper to another. The procedure that first built those entries split each list of authors using a rule that was wrong in two ways, and both have now been repaired.

The first fault was mechanical. The rule treated the word and as a separator between two names, but it also cut those three letters wherever they appeared inside a word. Surnames such as Alessandri, Anderlini, Pandolfi and Fernandez were therefore broken in two, and each half was recorded as if it were a person. A reader searching for one of those authors would not have found the papers.

The second fault was quieter. Any name that did not read as “Surname Initial” was discarded altogether, which removed every compound surname — De la Rosa, Ben Rouina, Di Marco, Briccoli Bati, Fernández Escobar — from the papers it belonged to. Those authors were simply missing, with nothing to indicate it.

The author lists have been read again from the original text of each record, which had been preserved. 279 papers were affected: 330 author attributions were restored or corrected, and 55 entries that never corresponded to a real person were withdrawn. Withdrawn entries are marked inactive rather than deleted, so the correction can be reviewed and reversed. Names entered by hand since the original migration were left untouched.
