The list of countries used across the database — in cultivar diffusion, in collections and in the searches based on them — now comes from a public reference archive that is kept up to date. Until now it was a fixed list, compiled once when the database was built and never revised since.

The practical difference is that country names follow the current international standard and will keep following it: when a country changes its name, or a new one is recognised, the change reaches the database instead of leaving it a little further behind each year.

Nothing changes in the records themselves. Every cultivar diffusion and every collection keeps exactly the country it was recorded with. A few names now read in their current official form and may look slightly different from before, but they refer to the same country.
